HAMEL

COPRODUCTION

With HAMEL the Brussels based YouYou Group moves into the theater space as an arena of significance. It catapults an old saga into the 21st century with a spin.

The more than human elements become the protagonists and mouthpieces: the river and the mountain. Focusing on the transformative characteristics of the river, the performers’ voices stream into the solid theater architecture during an immersive sonic choreography that drowns the audience.

HAMEL considers collapse a positive necessity – collapsing borders between performers and audience, inside and outside. Space is a sounding board for ritual and trance as intersecting performative traditions that take us to other places.
