...movement as a object...object as a dancer...body as poetry...
İlyas Odman searches for a unique expressionist method for creating physical theatre. He combines practices of contemporary dance, acrobatics and gesture theatre, taking risk and creating works that sit closer to performance art than a representational dance.
Odman began to dance at METU Dance Theatre in 1998 and has worked as a choreographer and trainer since 2000. In 2001, he established his own performance company under the title “underNine dance and movement project”. He has worked in collaboration with theatre director Yiğit Sertdemir and young choreographer Aslı Bostancı. He performed in Jerome Bel's The Show Must Go On within the iDANS Festival in 2011. In 2012 Odman has taken part in "COUNTDOWN" in collaboration with Melih Gençboyacı, Christina Katharina Flick, Kimmy Ligtvoet. The work is co-produced by PERFORM2012 and Productiehuis Rotterdam.
His works; tired ( 2005 ), glassteps (2006), and oggi niente ( 2010) have toured to Berlin, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Antwerp, Paris, Skopje, Zaragossa, Lisbon, Faro, Annecy, Napoli, Milano, Firenze, Catania. Glassteps has been choosen by AEROWAVES for the list of “Priority Companies 2012”.
